Stones & Society
About
Stones & Society is an international editorial publication about high jewelry, important gemstones, the houses and makers behind them, collecting, auctions, provenance and the culture surrounding exceptional jewels.
The name states the editorial philosophy. Stones are the objects: diamonds, colored diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, spinels, tourmalines, opals, pearls and the important gemstones of history, with the gemology, cutting, setting and craftsmanship that bring them to life. Society is the world around them: jewelry houses, designers, makers, collectors, auctions, museums, exhibitions, patrons and the cultural history in which jewels have always played a part.
What we cover
High jewelry and important historic jewels. Gemstones and gemology, treated with technical responsibility. Jewelry houses and independent designers. Building collections: provenance, condition, documentation and care. Auctions: important sales, significant lots and record results, reported with precision. Jewelry in culture: museums, exhibitions, historic collections and the arts.
What we do not cover
We are not a retailer, a gemstone dealer or a marketplace. We do not publish shopping guides to engagement rings, trend listicles or celebrity gossip. We do not present jewelry or gemstones as investments and we never promise appreciation.
How we work
Knowledge comes before spectacle. We research every story, verify factual claims against authoritative sources, and never invent carat weights, origins, treatments, certifications, prices, provenance or auction results. Where a fact cannot be verified, we qualify it or we do not publish it. We distinguish clearly between documented provenance, auction-house attribution and reported history. We never allow a jewelry house providing photography or press information to turn an article into promotional copy.
Photography is central to the publication. For named jewels, gemstones, auction lots and designers' work we use real photography, and we respect the licensing terms attached to it. We do not use generative imagery as documentary photography of real objects.
Our full editorial standards and our corrections policy are published here.
Commercial independence
Editorial selections are made on merit: design, material, craft, history and significance. Advertising, sponsored content and commercial partnerships are always identified as such. Objects, our curated selection of remarkable pieces, is an editorial feature, not a shop: Stones & Society does not sell products and does not rank them by price.
VAUDERIVE
STONES & SOCIETY is a publication of VAUDERIVE, the Swiss luxury group, and part of VAUDERIVE ÉDITIONS. The publication is editorially independent within the group.
